It was pure luck to spot elks during that drive to Oregon. I enjoy driving HWY 1 because of breathtaking views of the ocean almost anywhere from Santa Barbara to the far North, but it was the first time when wild animals drew my attention on my favorite road.
It was an early morning, so the fog from the ocean was still keeping soft light contrast, and creating nice separation of the backdrop. It turned out that the meadow, I saw elks on, is a regular place for them to feed on. There are even few warning road signs in the area about elks’ presence. That’s why the animals looked relaxed about people nearby.
I enjoyed watching and photographing elks for a good 20 minutes, which resulted in these photos.
